GFAA takes on Advocate 2024
This year at NAA Advocate GFAA had an incredibly productive Lobby Day with the National Apartment Association (NAA). Members from the Wilmington Apartment Association joined GFAA members for our meeting with Congressman David Rouzer (pictured here). We also met with Congressman Richard Hudson and our meeting included members from NAA and the Triangle Apartment Association.
We held a meeting at the Congressional Office on March 13 and discussed several key legislative proposals including the Choice in Affordable Housing Act, the Yes In My Backyard (YIMBY) initiative, and the Respect State Housing Laws Act. We highlighted the Choice in Affordable Housing Act's focus on expanding housing options for low-income individuals and families, emphasizing the importance pursuing accomplishable affordable housing initiatives. Additionally, we outlined the objectives of the YIMBY Act, which seeks to promote inclusive and sustainable urban development by encouraging increased housing supply by reducing the regulatory processes imposed by local municipalities.
Furthermore, we addressed the provisions of the Respect State Housing Laws Act, which aims to uphold state autonomy in housing policy and scale back some of the recent federal protocols overriding state laws. Throughout our discussion, we underscored the significance of bipartisan cooperation in advancing these initiatives to address the pressing issue of housing affordability and ensuring access to safe housing. Overall, the meeting provided an opportunity to explore potential solutions and strategies for addressing housing affordability issues while respecting state-level governance and promoting community-driven development initiatives.
This is a great conference for those interested in participating in public policy conversations or just participating in the legislative process, join us next March in Washington DC.
